We offer you an opportunity to read and learn about Buddhism in the Theravada tradition. Theravada (Pali: Thera=elders, vada=doctrine) or the "doctrine of the elders" represents the school of Buddhism that draws spiritual inspiration from the Pali Canon (or "Tripitaka") generally accepted by scholars as the oldest record of Buddha's teachings.
Imparting knowledge with a view toward developing and improving another's knowledge is Dhammadana in Buddhist terminology. The Buddha teaches us to appreciate the value of wisdom since it is the most valuable asset for a living being: hence, the need for us to develop our minds, as well as to help others to develop their knowledge.
There are two ways to achieve this end. One is by reading extensively on Buddha Dhamma. The other is by questioning that may invariably lead to discussion. It shall be our endeavour to provide satisfactory answers to such queries.

We are dedicated to providing our members with a diverse and inclusive experience of the dharma. This means that we embrace the wide array of lineages and traditions that exist within Buddhism.
We are a completely self-sustaining and independent organization so we have complete autonomy with regard to our meeting formats and speakers. This gives us the freedom to explore and learn about different ways of meditating from different teachers. We have the unique opportunity to meet as peers and to speak freely about our individual approaches to practice.
We provide a space for reflection, discussion, mutual support, and learning. Each meeting begins with meditation instruction and a brief period of sitting. Our meetings focus on assigned readings as well as readings we will do as a group that cover a rich and diverse overview of relevant Buddhist teachings and topics.
Members are encouraged to share their personal experiences regarding their personal practice and spiritual journey.
We realize that all of us are both students and teachers at different moments of our lives--we all have something to teach and we all have something to learn.
Everyone is valuable and everyone is welcome regardless of religion, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or previous meditation experience.

How to Get Started
Our weekly classes are a great place to start. A typical class will include teachings, two guided meditations and a question & answer session.
Taught by qualified Western teachers, the meditation classes are very easy to understand and apply to our daily lives. The classes are suitable for both beginners and more advanced meditation practitioners, and emphasize how to meditate and practice in our NY urban environment.
Meditation is a simple yet profound method to improve the quality of our lives and develop inner peace. Through following very simple, practical instructions we can learn to let go of the causes of our pain and dissatisfaction and to gain the inner peace and clarity we seek. We offer a wide range of classes from basic introductions to Buddhist meditation, applying Buddha’s teachings to daily life issues such as anger and improving relationships, to comprehensive study programs of Buddhist view, meditation and action. Everyone is welcome.
