Notes and Events:
Zen Meditation instruction offered at Awakened Meditation Centre by Zen Master Hwasun Yangil is intended for both beginners and advanced students alike.
Participants are offered a rare opportunity to enrich their inner life and practice under the guidance of an experienced Zen Master.
Instruction is provided in sitting meditation posture, breathing techniques, walking meditation, and Ko-an meditation, to concentrate and awaken the mind.
According to Zen tradition, at a gathering of his disciples Shakyamuni Buddha probed the understanding of his followers about the ultimate goal of His teaching by holding a flower aloft before the assembly. Among the thousand assembled there, only Mahakasyapa is said to have understood the gesture and acknowledged it with a smile. Thereupon, the Enlightened One acknowledged the transmission of the right Dharma eye, the blissful mind of Nirvana and the ultimate reality to the Venerable Mahakasyapa.
The transmission is outside of the scriptures. It aims at the direct pointing at the mind for the perception of self-nature and attainment of enlightenment.
The Zen teaching traces its origin from this transmission. It remains a living tradition, passed on from master to disciple.
From the great traditions of Asia, Zen has found a new home in the hearts of many in North America and Europe.
Zen opens a whole world of possibilities for improving and appreciating ones day-to-day life through mindfulness and awareness of the moment.

TWDD meditation originated in Tibetan Buddhist Meditation / Yoga practice. After a process of reforms, a series of public teachings has been developed by Master Hai Kong and has made available to the general public for the first time in history. TWDD represents a powerful tool to unfold our inner peace and to develop true happiness.
During each meditation session, we will give about half hour on-going teaching on " the three principle aspects of the path of true happiness" - a fundamental study set forth for successful meditation practices. Also we will do half hour standing meditation, 45 minutes of sitting meditation, as well as a short QA session.
The essence of TWDD meditation is to preoccupy one’s body, mind and speech with (holding) Mudra, (visualizing) Guru and (speaking) Mantra. In just a matter of 2 hours/per day in up to 7 days, all practitioners will be able to establish the connection to their own Dharma Nature, thereby generating the confidence to continue on the journey of spiritual development.

It is a registered charitable organization (Ottawa Theravada Buddhist and Cultural Center Inc., registration number 847682291 RR0001) that is funded by voluntary donations. Buddhist community life revolves around a local monastery acting as a service hub to the surrounding population. He encourages people to find their true nature so that humanity and the world may be renewed. He has trained with masters in Buddhist, Vedic and Shamanic traditions and maintains that:
“Our engagement with society and the environment rests on our quality of being. When that quality is rooted in stillness there is a different ground for subsequent actions and so events take a different course. We simply go home to our true nature. We are very active in this way and bring harmony to those we interact with. The most significant interaction is with our true nature. To connect to its boundless quality in daily life, and then to connect to others and the world in the same way is surely the ticket to ride!”
There are regular meetings for meditation and study every Thursday evening from 7.00pm – 9.00pm. The first Saturday of every month has a Mindfulness Gathering from 5.00pm – 8.00pm for dharma and a mindful meal.
