Notes and Events:
Alokabodhi Buddhist Group is the new name of the Maidstone Buddhist Group that has been meeting regularly for about 30 years.
The Alokabodhi Buddhist Group, (previously known as the Mid-Kent and Medway Buddhist Group), has been meeting regularly for nearly 40 years. It has evolved into a gathering of spiritual practitioners, committed not only to the study and practice of the Buddha-Dhamma, but also to developing spiritual friendship, something the Buddha said was of crucial importance on the spiritual Path. We believe that spiritual friendship is a very important quality to cultivate, because it inspires, guides and supports us in our practice.
We meet every Tuesday evening from 7.30pm 10.00pm, in the quiet space of the Garden room, The Blackthorn Medical Centre, St Andrew’s Road, Barming, Maidstone. Meetings usually include group meditation with readings or a talk followed by discussion. We provide a forum for learning and sharing our experiences of integrating the Buddha’s teachings into our everyday life. If you are interested in joining us or would like to know more please use the Contact Form on our website: www.alokabodhi.org.uk
The Alokabodhi sangha also meets in Ashford on the first Tuesday of each month. Please contact Bernie Oxland for details.
We also support each other’s practice by organising events outside our weekly meetings. These include our regular Sangha Sundays when our activities include gathering together for a mindful walk in the country (yatra), days of practice which include periods of noble silence, Days of Practice which include periods of Noble Silence, meditation, Dhamma teachings and discussions; family Sangha days, and the opportunity to visit monasteries or other Buddhist centres.
Apart from our residential retreats all our activities are on a dana basis i.e. they are offered free of charge out of a spirit of generosity, another key aspect of the Buddhas teaching.

Spiritual Director: Ringu Tulku Rinpoche
Notes and Events:
Bodhicharya Kent is a Buddhist group based in the Medway Town of Rochester under the guidance of Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, a Tibetan Kagyu Lama, and is based around meditation practice, discussion and study.
We run meditation evenings every Tuesday evening, usually 8pm to 9:30pm, except for the last Tuesday of the month. When possible we also invite visiting teachers from the Bodhicharya community who are experienced in meditation.
The evening is open to everyone including Buddhists of all traditions, those of other faiths and those with none. Perhaps you have an interest in Buddhism and want to find out more or perhaps you are mainly looking to learn some meditation methods to apply in your daily life. Whatever your motivation, an open, curious and sceptical mind will be useful. People new to meditation as well as experienced practitioners are welcome.
The evening usually consists of meditation sessions, with guidance and instruction, that are comfortably split in to 10 minute sessions with time for a good stretch in between (more experienced meditators can sit through the stretch break).
A related topic is also introduced and discussed. The group is made up of the participants so active engagement, questions, reflections and discussion are welcome, however, if you prefer to just sit back, listen, reflect and take it in that is also very good. There are comfortable chairs and cushions available, but there are no meditation specific cushions so if you have your own and would prefer to sit on it then please bring it along. There will be tea, coffee and biscuits to enjoy together at the end of the evening.
As of September 2014 we continue on with calm abiding meditation instruction and practice for all those who would like to learn or deepen a meditation practice and bring its many benefits into daily life.
We will also be reading through a book by Ringu Tulku on Mind Training (known as Lojong in Tibetan) to provide some structure, continuity and perspective to the meditation evenings:
»Lojong is not simply a mental exercise or a new intellectual approach, it is a profound education. It creates a radical change in our usual pattern of thinking. The meditation instructions and advice are plain and straightforward. This is a practice for ordinary life. There is no complexity or formality involved. No special ability is needed. Anyone can train their mind. The wisdom of these slogans is not exclusive to Buddhism. It is universal and goes beyond any particular religion.« – Ringu Tulku.
For those who would like a copy of the book it can be purchased here.
All are welcome :-)

Notes and Events:
Rissho Kosei-kai is a worldwide Buddhist organization founded in Japan in 1938 by Nikkyo Niwano and Myoko Naganuma. It combines the wisdom of both the Lotus Sutra and the foundational teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. Its purpose is to bring these transformative teachings to the modern world.
The Lotus Sutra is a teaching of human respect, both the study and practice of a spiritual path that develops human potential, and a way of living that seeks peace for all people. By studying, understanding, integrating, and practicing the teachings, human beings can gradually approach a state of mind free from delusions, thereby enriching their own lives and those of others around them. Because everything is interconnected, when people devote themselves to benefitting all beings through harmony, they create awareness and develop a better world. This is the ideal for practitioners of the Lotus Sutra.
