PA-AUK MEDITATION CENTRE (SINGAPORE)

Pa-Auk Meditation Centre (\'PAMC), established as a direct lineage of the Pa-Auk Forest Monastery (Pa-Auk), Mawlamyine, Myanmar, received the strong endorsement and support of The Most Venerable Pa-Auk Tawya Sayadaw Bhaddanta Ᾱciṇṇa (the Sayadaw), the Abbot of Pa-Auk.  PAMC is dedicated to the Sangha of Pa-Auk (the Sangha\\) as led by the Sayadaw, and draws its spiritual direction from the Sayadaw.

PAMC was registered in Singapore on 20 August 2007, and its registration was gazetted in the Singapore Government Gazette Notification No. 2555 dated 22 August 2007.

OUR MISSION

PAMC serves to promote the learning and practice of Samatha and Vipassanā meditation, based on the teachings of Lord Gotama Buddha, as taught by the Sayadaw at Pa-Auk.

PAMC\\\'s principal activities include the following:

  • providing a conducive venue for the learning and practice of meditation under the guidance of resident teacher(s)
  • organizing  regular meditation retreats, courses and Dhamma talks (based on the Tipiṭaka, the Pāli Texts and the Commentaries),  taught by teachers authorized by the Sayadaw (and/or the Sangha)
  • publishing of Dhanmma books and CDs of Dhamma talks approved by Pa-Auk.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to establish a meditation retreat centre with an environment that encourages the observance of the Vinaya and precepts, and conducive for the long-term practice by both monastics and lay meditators. The retreat centre is envisaged to have separate facilities for male and female meditators, including separate meditation halls and residential facilities, providing a certain degree of solitude and minimum distraction.

Our longer term vision is to have a Sangha residing in Singapore, forming part of the larger Pa-Auk Sangha, so that the Sadhamma (true teachings of the Buddha) can be taught and practised, can take root, develop and sustain, and will flourish in Singapore and beyond, for the welfare and happiness of all.

OUR LOGO

PAMCs Logo, comprising the Asoka Lion Pillars topped by the Wheel of Dhamma, is similar to that of Pa-Auk. The Logo encompasses the following key features  :

  • It symbolizes PAMCs lineage of Pa-Auk Forest Monastery
  • Lion  is representative of the Buddha in many ways; Lion also symbolizes Singapore, the Lion City
  • The words Sīla (morality), Samādhi (Concentration), Paññā (Wisdom) as inscribed on the Wheel of Dhamma, represent the undertaking of Threefold Training (of the Noble Eightfold Path) that will systematically purify ones body, speech and mind (of defilements)  in order to realize Nibbana, a state of supreme peace and happiness

The Logo hence depicts PAMCs direct lineage to Pa-Auk, and its aspiration  to be the place where :

  • The true teachings of the Buddha (the Sadhamma) are taught, and the Wheel of Dhamma turns,
  • The Threefold Training is undertaken and practised, can take root, developed and  sustained, will flourish in Singapore and beyond, for the welfare  and happiness of all.

Notes and Events:

Pacific Zen Institute was founded by John Tarrant, Roshi 25 years ago as a way to teach that meditation and koans can have a real and direct impact on your life in all circumstances. Today there are a number of PZI centers in the US and Canada. Santa Rosa is the location of the original center. For more information about Pacific Zen Institute, retreats and programs, go to pacificzen.org .

Our PZI mission is to create a culture for transforming the mind through meditation, koans, conversation and the arts. We believe many impossible things, but the most impossible thing of all, that enlightenment is right here, is also the most true. And it’s not so hard to have an experience of enlightenment.  The trick is to notice it, and to embody the transformation, to live in the world that is transformed.

One of the final wishes of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, was that his sons, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche and Chokling Rinpoche, build a monastery in Lumbini. This, he saw, would serve as a great inspiration for innumerable sentient beings and bring extraordinary benefit. Now, through the aspirations and heartfelt commitment of the sangha, this vision is about to become a reality. The monastery, which will be known as Pal Thubten Shedrub Ling, is about to be built on land granted by the Government of Nepal as a national heritage site and the architectural plans have already been drawn up.

As a major seat for the representations of enlightened Body, Speech and Mind, the monastery will house three large statues representing the Buddhas of the past, present and future. In addition, the monastery will house 1000 exquisite, golden representations of all the Buddhas of this Fortunate Aeon. Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and his sons have aspired that Pal Thubten Shedrub Ling will come to serve not only as an important monastic seat of learning and practice, but also as a source of immediate and ever-lasting peace and well-being for all sentient beings..

This monastery is currently being built , ccompletion by 2013/14.

Our Mission
Our mission is to offer authentic teachings and practices in the Tantric Buddhist traditions of the Nyingmapa, the ancient school of Tibet; and to create a gathering place and support structure for the D.C. area community for regular practice, instruction and study; and to preserve the teachings of Lord Buddha and of our lineage masters for future generations.
By following the authentic teachings transmitted to us through our spiritual teachers, our goals are to establish the Dharma in the world and to benefit all sentient beings.  To do this, we offer a place for the community and for ourselves to practice the two accumulations — understanding through study, and realization through practice — to discover the living Dharma within ourselves, and to support each other in our practice and our lives.
Our Values
We present these principals to guide our actions:  We strive to emulate the values personified by our teachers, including compassion for all beings, equanimity, patience, openness, ethical behavior, non-grasping, generosity, humility and simplicity.  We strive to hold respect for each member of the Sangha (community) as a practitioner on the path of enlightenment, with no bias toward anyone who comes seeking Dharma instruction and community.  We are committed to a democratic spirit among our members, with oversight and guidance from our spiritual teachers.  Decisions are made in an open, honest and cooperative manner with organizational processes as transparent as possible.  We conduct the affairs of the organization in compliance with all local, state, and national laws.
