Notes and Events:

At Holy Eagle Peak Temple in San Francisco, we provide Zazen Meditation, Chanting of Sutras, Dharma talks, Oryoki meal instructions and recipes for mindful eating to better health, along with Buddhist counselling   on a one-to-one basis by appointment for all members of the temple and the handicapped, and/or, disabled practitioners. This includes the Hikikomori, who find it difficult or uncomfortable to journey to far from home.

In addition to Sunday services this temple also provides services for weddings, blessings, memorials, sick calls and funerals.

Most of our Sangha are Veterans with a disability rating of 50% or more. This humble Buddhist temple is, however, open and welcoming to anyone.  We follow the precepts of the Buddha, Zen Master Dogen Zenji and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.

If you can accommodate a larger group then I highly recommend the Soto Mission Sokoji Temple in Japan Town at 1691 Laguna St., San Francisco. The Rev. Koshi Kurotaki is a wonderful Priest.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

ECO LIVING
This program promotes care for our environment and mindful living.

Eco-living means eco-sustainable living, or living in harmony with people and our environment in the long-term. It is based on under-standing of the interdependence of all life on Earth and respect for all species we share this planet with.

 EDUCATION
The theme for our Education Program is Values and Life Skills.

Our approach to teaching Dharma to young people is based on the theme Values and Life Skills. This means that there is less emphasis on memorising what’s in a book and more on teaching the basic values exemplified by the Buddha’s life. Class time shows how the Buddha’s teachings can be used as life skills in day-to-day situations to solve “life problems”.

HUMANITARIAN CARE
The Humanitarian Care Project is a catalyst for any activity which helps to relieve suffering.

We live in a turbulent age in human history, when the number of humanitarian disasters seems to be increasing. Disasters cause suffering and destroy the fabric of society.

 SPIRITUAL CARE
Assisting the aged, the sick, the terminally ill and those in the corrective services system.

The Koyasan Buddhist Temple, officially known as "Koyasan Beikoku Betsuin" of Los Angeles, is located in Little Tokyo area near the Civic Center. The Temple belongs to the Koyasan Shingon Mission founded by Kobo-Daishi (774-835 A.D.) and refers to one of the Mahayana Buddhist Schools. The Temple serves as the Koyasan Shingon Mission headquarters for the mainland United States.

Our temple follows Shingon Buddhism, a Vajrayana Buddhist sect that was established by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) at the beginning of the Heian period (9th century) in Japan. This form of Buddhism is also known in Japanese as "mikkyo" (secret teaching) and is one of several streams of practice within the Mahayana Buddhist tradition The word \\\'shingon\\\' means "true words". According to the teachings, enlightenment is not a distant reality that takes eternity to approach but a real possibility within this very life, based on the spiritual potential of every living being.
