Notes and Events:

Amawatura Buddhist Centre was set up in 2015 by Dr Gamani Goonetilleka, Ven Ratmalane’ Sirisumana Nayake’ Thero, Ven Hapugoda Buddhadatta Nayake’ Thero with overseeing advice from Ven Dr Ratmalane’ Somaloka Thero, in Sydney Australia. We were Incorporated in March 2016 and subsequently registered as a ‘not for profit’ charity in Australia.

Australia is a very successful multicultural nation and we are proud to be a part of it. Access to Sri Lankan Buddhist monks in the Sydney region is limited as the small numbers of monks present at the Sri Lankan Buddhist temples in Sydney region are extremely hard pressed to find the time to engage in various Buddhist cultural aspects to help the Sri Lankan Buddhists and other interested persons in the diverse community. Amawatura Buddhist Centre (Inc) is proceeding to develop a ‘Sri Lankan Buddhist Cultural Centre’ involving establishment of a Buddhist monks’ residence, a ’place of Buddhist worship’, and a Buddhist Library. We hope to have a complete Buddhist cultural programme, much more than we offer now. Till we secure a permanent ‘Place of Worship’, all our functions such as ‘Poya’ Full moon day ‘Sil’ programs, Vesak and Katina celebrations, other significant events in the Buddhist Calendar which attract a reasonable number of devotees are held in Halls hired for the purpose. As of now our resident monks are available to visit households for Almsgivings, Buddhist blessing ceremonies, accept invitations for Buddhist sermons, Pirith Chanting and other necessary Buddhist Cultural activities to help the Sinhala speaking Buddhists and others in the Australian, Chinese, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Burmese, Indian and other communities. The idea is to offer spiritually essential Buddhist cultural support, teach Mindfulness, Insight Meditation, and interact with devotees in brotherhood. Our Committee has Sinhalese, Tamil, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indian persons, all working together with the wider Buddhist community to enrich each other’s lives in a manner of ‘UNITY IN DIVERSITY’.

We are a small but Incorporated and registered charity in Australia and actively seek donations to complete this project towards establishment of a permanent ‘Place of worship’ to better serve the Buddhist public and others in necessitous circumstances in Sydney NSW Australia.

Tinh Giác is Vietnamese for “Wake Up” and refers to both our initial awakening to the need for a path to help us live deeply and the continuous process of awakening throughout our lives. This name has been given to the group by the Most Venerable Thich Thanh Tu, a meditation master and founder of the modern Truc Lam (Bamboo Forest Lineage) in Vietnam. The name given to us has not been translated literally into English, but has been expressed in the form of a traditional Buddhist image in order to express more poetically the meaning of Tinh Giác.

In order to realise the aspiration inherent in our name we focus on studying and practising the ethical principles of Buddhism (The five precepts), meditation in the Bamboo Forest/Truc Lam tradition, the teachings of the Buddha found in the sutras and the gentle building of a fourfold Sangha.

Buddhist books, DVDs, CDs and audiocassettes are available for a three-week loan from the library.

Bodhicitta Dakini Monastery

Address: Golden Valley,Near Launceston   TAS 7304

Affiliation: Bodhicitta Foundation NGO / Kalyanamitra Foundation
E-mail: moondakini@hotmail.com
Website: https://bodhicitta-monastery.com/
Find on:
Teacher: Venerable Ayya Yeshe
Notes and Events:

We are a socially engaged Centre of contemplation that is slowly forming with the aim of providing training, shelter, emotional and spiritual support to Western nuns, monks and the lay community based around the traditional model of the four fold Sangha of nuns, monks lay women and laymen (and non binary people) founded by the Buddha.

We will emphasise gender equality and nun driven leadership, because currently women are left out of most positions of power in Tibetan Buddhism and have historically received less support and education.

We invite you to be a part of this exciting project to offer teachings and establish the Dharma in the West to create a more compassionate, peaceful and sane world.

Our aim is to create a monastery and retreat Centre where monastics in the Tibetan tradition, who currently have to pay money to pay in lay Centres can live in the Vinaya, do deep practice and study as well as social service and gain the insights necessary to preserve the vast and profound Teachings of non sectarian Tibetan Buddhism.

We will also draw inspiration and influences from other traditions such as the Thai Forest tradition (such as using alms bowls, doing the Kathina cloth, alms round, tudong pilgrimage, living in simplicity in nature with a monastic routine), as well as the Plum Village Thich Nhat Hanh tradition, (beginning anew, non violent communication, communal harmony, mindful eating and living).

Bodhicitta Dakini Monastery is a non sectarian Mahayana monastery that welcomes people to stay and meditate and support our resident monastics. We welcome all people, but are a female led temple with a focus on contemplation and social justice work occasionally outside the monastery.

Golden Valley is a rural locality in the local government area of Meander Valley in the Launceston region of Tasmania. It is located about 59 kilometres south-west of the town of Launceston
