We follow the teachings of Vietnamese Zen Master, the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh but also look to other schools and teachings to deepen our practice.  This particular group is interested in the Absolute Truth/Zen/Suchness and working towards realising this through experience.

The grounds of the village hall are lovely.  There are fields with horses, a nice flower garden and lawned area with trees.  If the weather is nice we often meditate and/or practise QiGong outside.  On Days of Mindfulness we walk in noble silence around the fields and woodland that surrounds the hall.

Europe’s only primary school based on Buddhist principles

The Dharma Primary is a small community school and nursery, with skilled and committed staff, in which children excel in a safe, secure and nurturing environment. We provide a sound quality academic education informed by the National Curriculum, but with the flexibility and creativity to respond to the children’s needs, talents and interests. Children develop confidence, motivation and a love of learning enabling them to do well academically and to make a successful transition to local independent and state secondary schools.

Through our Buddhist based ethos and daily meditation and mindfulness practice, we encourage children to cultivate focus, self-reflection, wisdom and compassion. Buddhism is not taught as a ‘faith’, but as a set of principles and tools for living a productive and fulfilling life.

Ethos and Vision

We intend that our pupils leave our school with a good heart, sound ethical values and a sense of responsibility combined with the academic and social skills that enable them to make a successful transition into secondary education. We hope our pupils will then go on to act in ways that will help to create a more compassionate, intelligent and peaceful world.

Children are introduced to the benefit of stillness through regular meditation practice enabling them to develop a reflective understanding of themselves, their life and the world around them. We discuss key Buddhist teachings to help children understand cause and effect, cooperation and change, known as karma, interdependence and impermanence.

“The biggest gift a teacher can give a child is the capacity to use their minds. The Dharma School embraces and embodies mindfulness in education” - Parent

E-mail: amely.becker@dzogchencommunity.org

Spiritual Director: Chogyal Namkhai Norbu
Notes and Events:

Dzogchen is an ancient spiritual teaching developed in Tibet within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. It does not belong to a school or religious system. Rather, it is the knowledge that Tibetan masters have transmitted without being limited by sectarianism. The word Dzogchen, meaning total perfection, actually refers to the true inherent nature of all beings, their primordial state, which is free from all limitations and conditioning. The masters transmission of this state of knowledge lies at the very heart of the Dzogchen teachings.

The Dzogchen tradition has been passed from master to student in an unbroken lineage over the centuries, right up to the present day. Due to its direct and unelaborate approach, it transcends cultural boundaries making it accessible to all nationalities alike regardless of their spiritual background.

The Dzogchen teachings are divided in three series: Semde, Longde and Mennagde. The three series are three ways of presenting the teaching, each with its corresponding methods of practice; the aim of all three, however, is to lead the practitioner to final realization.

In Semde, the mind series, the practitioner is introduced to the nature of mind in order to have a actual experience of it.

Longde means the space series: in this instance space refers to the primordial dimension of emptiness which serves as a base for manifesting the clarity of the practitioner, and for developing their understanding.

Mennagde, the essential series of secret instructions or Upadesha, comprises special teachings and methods based on the experiences of masters, with the aim of helping the practitioner progress up to complete realization.
