Our vision is to promote the practice and realization of being fully awake to the truth of our experience.

We recognise that this radical awareness, while inherent and completely natural, demands a profound and disciplined inquiry to bring to fruition.

Sustaining this inquiry, encouraging suitable meditation practices and supporting the growth of a community of practitioners is the work of Original Nature.

Becoming fully present to our experience naturally evokes a response of reverence, compassion and joy. These qualities are the heart of our teaching and practice.

Original Nature Meditation Centre is founded on the ethical principles of the Buddha-dharma. Our work is dedicated to nurturing wisdom and peace in ourselves and others, and for the benefit of all beings.

We acknowledge with gratitude the lineage of our past and present teachers and we belong primarily to the Insight/Vipassana strand of the Buddhist tradition.

Ottawa Theravada Buddhist Vihara and Cultural Center (Ottawa Buddhist Monastery) is a vibrant religious organization based on the teachings of the Buddha. Our dedicated members follow the tenets of Buddhism and strive to practice them in their daily lives, particularly The Five Precepts (Pancha Sīla). Founded in Ottawa in 2007 by Sri Lankan Monk Most Venerable Kekanadure Hemalankara Nayaka Thero to meet the religious and cultural needs of the growing Buddhist population in our nation’s capital, the monastery relocated to Orléans in July, 2014. It is a registered charitable organization (Ottawa Theravada Buddhist and Cultural Center Inc., registration number 847682291 RR0001) that is funded by voluntary donations. Buddhist community life revolves around a local monastery acting as a service hub to the surrounding population. Ottawa Theravada Buddhist Vihara and Cultural Center (Ottawa Buddhist Monastery) aims to replicate this tradition by offering many events and activities free-of-charge to its members and the general public, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike.

Weekly meditation sessions, weekly dhamma sermons and pūjās, Pirith Chantings, Sunday Dhamma School, monthly Sil Program (Precept Observing’s), the grand Annual Vesak Festival (Birthday of Buddha) every year in May and Kathina Ceremony- these are just a few of the services and events that celebrate religious and cultural heritage and foster the development of exceptional members of Canadian Society

PAMC\\\'s principal activities include the following:

  • providing a conducive venue for the learning and practice of meditation under the guidance of resident teacher(s)
  • organizing  regular meditation retreats, courses and Dhamma talks (based on the Tipiṭaka, the Pāli Texts and the Commentaries),  taught by teachers authorized by the Sayadaw (and/or the Sangha)
  • publishing of Dhanmma books and CDs of Dhamma talks approved by Pa-Auk.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to establish a meditation retreat centre with an environment that encourages the observance of the Vinaya and precepts, and conducive for the long-term practice by both monastics and lay meditators. The retreat centre is envisaged to have separate facilities for male and female meditators, including separate meditation halls and residential facilities, providing a certain degree of solitude and minimum distraction.

Our longer term vision is to have a Sangha residing in Singapore, forming part of the larger Pa-Auk Sangha, so that the Sadhamma (true teachings of the Buddha) can be taught and practised, can take root, develop and sustain, and will flourish in Singapore and beyond, for the welfare and happiness of all.

OUR LOGO

PAMCs Logo, comprising the Asoka Lion Pillars topped by the Wheel of Dhamma, is similar to that of Pa-Auk. The Logo encompasses the following key features  :

  • It symbolizes PAMCs lineage of Pa-Auk Forest Monastery
  • Lion  is representative of the Buddha in many ways; Lion also symbolizes Singapore, the Lion City
  • The words Sīla (morality), Samādhi (Concentration), Paññā (Wisdom) as inscribed on the Wheel of Dhamma, represent the undertaking of Threefold Training (of the Noble Eightfold Path) that will systematically purify ones body, speech and mind (of defilements)  in order to realize Nibbana, a state of supreme peace and happiness

The Logo hence depicts PAMCs direct lineage to Pa-Auk, and its aspiration  to be the place where :

  • The true teachings of the Buddha (the Sadhamma) are taught, and the Wheel of Dhamma turns,
  • The Threefold Training is undertaken and practised, can take root, developed and  sustained, will flourish in Singapore and beyond, for the welfare  and happiness of all.

Pacific Buddhist Academy (PBA) teachers academically challenge and personally and spiritually nurture each student in order to develop leaders who work effectively and compassionately with others. PBA is a standards-based learning environment where a Buddhist approach to peace is integrated into all classes and activities. An average class size of 18:1 allows teachers to provide personalized instruction. Students learn through a process of collaborative, active engagement, critical examination of ideas and reflective self-discovery.

Fully WASC/HAIS accredited, PBA is an independent college preparatory high school located right outside downtown Honolulu, and part of a coordinated system of Buddhist education, pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Applicants are not required to be or expected to become Buddhists, as we welcome students of all beliefs and religious backgrounds.
